- Location: Situated on the edge of the first escarpment to the Rift Valley, characterized by broken valleys with dense vegetation. It is located within Samburu County, bordering the privately-owned Mugie Ranch.
- Establishment: The conservancy was initiated by local communities from two Samburu group ranches: Lolmolog and Longewan.
- Challenges: The area has historically been volatile, plagued by poaching and ethnic conflict between the Samburu and neighboring Pokot communities. Unfortunately, these issues still hamper the conservancy’s development and activities.
- Conservation Focus:
- Protecting the endangered Grevy’s zebra, which has a significant population in the conservancy. Security operations are critical for this.
- Conserving other wildlife species including lion, cheetah, leopard, impala, Thompson’s gazelle, ostrich, waterbuck, buffalo, and Greater Kudu.
- Serving as a habitat for migratory populations of elephant and the endangered wild dog.
- Addressing human-wildlife conflict, particularly concerning plains zebras encroaching on people’s lands.
- Wildlife: The conservancy is home to abundant populations of the endangered Grevy’s zebra.
