- Part of the Mara-Serengeti Ecosystem: The Masai Mara is the northernmost section of this massive ecosystem, covering about 25,000 square kilometers in Kenya and Tanzania.
- The Great Wildebeest Migration: The Mara is world-famous for hosting the spectacular annual wildebeest migration. Millions of wildebeest, along with zebras and other herbivores, trek from the Serengeti into the Masai Mara, typically between July and October, in search of greener pastures.
